Our Acheivements

The Institute has to its credit, to the following achievements below.

Housing the Social Standards Unit of the World Bank Sustainable Procurement, Environment and Social Standards Center of Excellence (SPESSCE) recently won by FUTO (2019 – 2024).


Published eight volumes of its International Journal of Gender and Development Issues (IJGDI).

Sustenance of Postgraduate programmes in Gender and related fields.


Held eight annual international conferences on gender and related issues.

Organized annual events to mark global observances in its areas of focus including International Women’s Day, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, among others.


Held annual interactive sessions with FUTO students on sexuality, drug abuse, and students’ vices, as part of its mentorship programme.

Organised empowerment workshops for women and youths in the University’s host communities.


Research endeavours include Needs Assessment Study for the University’s host communities in 2012; Gender Trend Audit of Staff and Students of the University, Evaluation of the Extent of Achievement of the MDGs in the Niger-Delta Region of Nigeria sponsored by TETFUND, Gender Characteristics and Conflict Management in Imo East Senatorial Zone, Gender and Health-Seeking Behaviour of Residents of Owerri West LGA of Imo State, and Indices for Measuring the Interest of Girl-Child in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Subjects in Imo State.
